CHILDRENS MARTIAL ARTS PROGRAM OFFERED IN WESTCHASE
Martial Arts is a great way for Women & Girls to learn Self Defense.
BJJ is a style of Martial Arts which is an ideal form of self-defense since most attacks on women end up on the ground; Jiu-Jitsu is one of the very few forms of self-defense that deals with the most neglected form of combat, ground fighting. Also most martial arts rely on speed, strength or the element of surprise to be effective. What is not put into the equation is the fact that women are usually attacked by surprise without given the opportunity to strike at the right moment. So what do you do when you find yourself on the ground with a person 100 pounds heavier than you on top of you? Certainty not punching and kicking.
HOW KIDS BENEFIT FROM PARTICIPATING IN MARTIAL ARTS:
BJJ vs. Other Martial Arts for Kid
Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu enables practitioners to subdue their opponents without the use of punching and kicking, eliminating the need to use excessive force in a real-life self-defense situation. BJJ is a martial art that uses grappling techniques and ideal for diffusing an aggressive situation. Nobody has to get hurt with Jiu-Jitsu, the idea of "tapping out" during training allows the students to keep their training realistic, yet safe.
Why BJJ for Kids as Self Defense
Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu is the ideal method of self-defense for kids since it emphasizes leverage and technique over strength and power. This focus makes it possible for all children to excel, regardless of their size or athletic ability.
Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu is a martial art designed to work with the principles of leverage and technique instead of brutal force and strength. The main focus of BJJ is on the ground grappling: the most important but often neglected area of martial arts and MMA.
It is a fact that 90% of all fights end up in clinch and eventually on the ground. BJJ gives you the necessary tools to fully protect yourself in the most common type of street confrontations and against any other type of martial art.
Learning Coordination Early in Life through Martial Arts
Kids learn motor movement at a very early age. Martial Arts challenges the entire body, developing coordination, balance, agility and poise. These traits are often neglected and not fully developed in team sports. By starting children in Jiu-Jitsu they learn how to fall properly, and how to initiate movement patterns that are inherent to life and any sport they might choose down the road. We also begin basic fitness and calisthenics that will give them a leg-up on their peers who do not engage in fitness activities at an early age.
Learn Discipline, Perseverance & Commitment by training in the Martial Arts
Kids are ranked in a belt system and within these belts they will earn degrees. The belt system allows your child to set long-term goals (becoming a black belt) and short-term goals, such as being able to execute a new technique they learned in class, or achieving their next degree or belt. These skills will help you child learn commitment and perseverance which are life-long skills important for every child to learn and understand to succeed in their goals.
WHAT TO EXPECT IN YOUR FIRST MARTIAL ARTS CLASS.
We have many kids who are very excited and motivated to start classes, but some may feel reserved, nervous, and shy on their firs day, as is the case with many new activities. There are lots of new movements and positions that are completely foreign to them. It is natural to feel timid, but after a few minutes of class, participants are encouraged by the supportive environment and tend to relax and enjoy!
Our goal at the beginning of class is to make the warm-ups fast-paced and fun. We encourage every child to join in, to get a feel for the class, but some kids prefer to just watch at first, which they are welcome to do. We do not require sparring or competition in the class, but most kids look forward to trying their new techniques. We end each class with a game and cool down, which are always a hit with the kids.
WHAT TO EXPECT IN YORU FIRST CLASS: We recommend you arrive 10 minutes before schedule, so we can get you the proper loaner equipment, if needed, and get you signed in as a trial member. Be sure to wear comfortable clothing you would normally work out in. When lining up to begin practice, you’ll notice the instructor has a precise plan for the class. This is standard. The class routine is always similar so you know exactly what to expect during each part of practice; the techniques change, though! You’ll also find strong support from your peers. By the end of class you’ll be physically tired but mentally exhilarated. Once you have finished the class, we provide you the opportunity to ask any questions with one of our program directors as well an explanation of the class programs we offer.
"There is no losing in Jiu-Jitsu. You either win or you learn."
My daughter is very much an introvert in public. The coaches and program here has really helped her establish confidence in herself! She typically won't warm up to men very easily, but the coaches here are so great in making the kids feel comfortable, extra patient and caring. She now goes running in and says hi to every coach/professor she sees. Can't say enough good things about this place!
We have taken our just turned 7 yr old son to this location on Saturdays for the competition class and it is just great! Coach Mh'mmd gives them an awesome workout...strength, endurance and rolling. We just started taking him this week to Thurs and Fri classes. Prof Inacio, what more can we say, he is awesome. The class is very attentive, the kids are focused, they are there to learn jiujitsu. The classes are not huge and the kids have several instructors to help. Our son goes to another GB school but the days we are coming here give him a different environment, he is very focused and eager to learn. Thanks professors Inacio, Mh'mmd, Ulpiano, for making John feel so welcome. In just a few days we have already seen a change. We have a much longer drive but it is truly worth it.
I'm visiting Houston from out of town, and dropped into class tonight - and couldn't have asked for a better class/gym experience. Everyone was so welcoming, really great instruction, supportive training partners, and professional all around. I highly recommend this place and will definitely drop back in when I'm in town - thanks!
